About Unlock PDF

Unlock PDF removes the open password from a PDF you are allowed to access. Enter the current password, and the tool decrypts the document and saves a copy that opens without a prompt, so you no longer have to type the password every time.

It is handy for bank statements, payslips and bills that arrive password-protected but need to be archived, merged or uploaded to a portal that rejects encrypted files. Decryption runs in your browser with QPDF WebAssembly. It does not guess or crack passwords; you must know the password.

How to use Unlock PDF

  1. Type the password in the PDF password field.
  2. Drop the PDF onto the page or select Choose PDF. If you added the file first, select Open PDF after typing the password.
  3. Select Apply to remove the encryption.
  4. Download the unlocked PDF and store it somewhere safe.

Features

  • Removes the open password and the encryption from the saved copy.
  • Handles standard PDF encryption, from older RC4 to AES-256.
  • Keeps text, images, links and form fields exactly as they were.
  • Unlocks up to 12 PDFs at once when they share the same password.
  • Uses the password only inside an isolated browser worker; it is never sent anywhere.

Common uses

  • Archiving password-protected bank statements and payslips.
  • Preparing a protected PDF for Merge PDF or another tool that needs an unlocked file.
  • Uploading a document to a portal that rejects encrypted PDFs.
  • Printing a protected file at a print shop without sharing the password.

Tips

  • An unlocked copy can be opened by anyone who gets the file, so keep it in a secure location.
  • Passwords are case-sensitive. If unlocking fails, check Caps Lock and your keyboard layout.

Frequently asked questions

Can this tool remove a password I do not know?

No. Unlock PDF only removes a password you can provide. It does not try to guess, crack or bypass encryption, so it is meant for files you own or are authorized to open.

Why does the tool say the PDF is encrypted?

That means the file needs a password to open. Type it in the PDF password field and select Open PDF. If the message appears again, check for typos, letter case and the keyboard layout you are typing with.

Can I unlock several PDFs at once?

Yes, if they use the same password. Enter the password, add up to 12 PDFs and select Apply. Each file is unlocked separately and all of them download together as a ZIP.

Is it legal to remove a password from a PDF?

Removing a password from a document you are entitled to open, such as your own statements, is a common practical task. Do not use the tool on files you have no right to access, and respect any terms that came with the document.
