About PDF to images

PDF to images renders the pages of a PDF as PNG or JPG pictures. Choose which pages to export, pick a resolution between 72 and 300 DPI, and download a single image or a ZIP with one file per page, named in page order.

Use it to share a page in a chat app, post a slide on social media, insert a page into a presentation or create a thumbnail of a document. Pages are rendered with PDF.js on a white background inside your browser, so documents are never uploaded and no watermark is added.

How to use PDF to images

  1. Drop one or more PDFs onto the page or select Choose PDF.
  2. Enter the pages to export, such as 1-3, or leave the Pages field blank for all pages.
  3. Choose a Resolution (DPI) and an Output format: PNG or JPG.
  4. For JPG, set the Quality slider; higher values give cleaner but larger files.
  5. Select Apply, preview the images and download them one by one or as a ZIP.

Features

  • PNG for crisp text and line art, or JPG for smaller files with adjustable quality.
  • Five resolutions: 72, 96, 144 (the default), 200 and 300 DPI.
  • Exports all pages or any list of pages and ranges.
  • Files named page-001.png, page-002.png and so on, bundled in a ZIP when there are several.
  • Up to 12 megapixels per page image, 150 megapixels per PDF and 150 MB of output.
  • Converts up to 12 PDFs in one run.

Common uses

  • Sharing one page of a document in a messaging app that does not preview PDFs.
  • Posting a slide or poster on social media.
  • Inserting a page into a presentation, document or web page as an image.
  • Creating a cover image or thumbnail for an ebook or report.

Tips

  • At 144 DPI, a Letter or A4 page comes out at roughly 1,200 × 1,600 pixels, which is plenty for screens.
  • Use 300 DPI for printing. If a large page exceeds the limit, choose a lower resolution.

Frequently asked questions

Which DPI should I choose?

Use 72 or 96 DPI for quick previews and web thumbnails, 144 DPI for sharing and reading on screens, and 200 or 300 DPI when you need to print or zoom into fine detail. Higher DPI means larger files.

Should I choose PNG or JPG?

PNG is lossless and keeps text and line drawings perfectly sharp, but files are larger. JPG produces much smaller files and suits photos and scanned pages; lower the Quality slider for an even smaller size.

Can I convert just one page of a PDF to an image?

Yes. Type the page number in the Pages field, such as 4, and only that page is exported. You get a single image file instead of a ZIP.

Why do I get a message that a page is too large?

Each page image is limited to 12 megapixels and 16,384 pixels on its longest side. Very large pages, such as posters or engineering drawings, can exceed that at high DPI. Choose a lower resolution and try again.

Is the text in the images still selectable?

No. The images are pictures of the pages, so text cannot be selected or searched. Keep the original PDF if you need the text, and use the images only where a picture is required.
