About Add text to PDF

Add text to PDF places your own words on top of an existing page. Type a note, label, date or reference number, choose a font size and color, then click or drag on the page preview to put it exactly where it belongs.

It is meant for quick additions to documents you cannot edit at the source, such as a printed form without fillable fields or a letter that needs a date. The text is drawn by your browser and added as a sharp image layer, so it looks the same in every viewer. Nothing is uploaded.

How to use Add text to PDF

  1. Drop a PDF onto the page or select Choose PDF.
  2. Type your text in the Text box, then set the font size and color.
  3. Select a page thumbnail, then click or drag on the large preview to place the text.
  4. Fine-tune with X, Y, Scale, Opacity and Rotation, and edit the Pages field if the text should appear on more pages.
  5. Select Apply and download the edited PDF.

Features

  • Multi-line text up to 10,000 characters, font sizes from 6 to 100, in any color.
  • Positioning by click or drag on a live page preview, or by exact X and Y percentages.
  • Scale, opacity from 5% to 100% and rotation from -180° to 180°.
  • Rendered at three times the base resolution and embedded as an image, so it looks identical in every PDF viewer.
  • Places the same text on one page, a range or every page.
  • Works with rotated pages, so the text lands where you see it in the preview.

Common uses

  • Adding a date, name or reference number to a letter or invoice.
  • Typing answers onto a printed form that has no fillable fields.
  • Labeling exhibits or attachments before they are filed.
  • Writing a short note or correction for a reviewer on a draft.

Tips

  • If the PDF has real fillable fields, Fill PDF forms is faster and keeps the answers editable.
  • For a large angled label across every page, such as DRAFT, use Add watermark instead.

Frequently asked questions

Can I edit existing text in a PDF with this tool?

No. It adds new text on top of a page; it cannot change or delete text that is already in the document. To correct the original wording, edit the source file and export a new PDF.

Is the added text searchable?

No. Your text is drawn as a high-resolution image layer so it renders consistently everywhere. That means it cannot be selected, copied or found with the viewer's search, and screen readers will not read it.

Which font does the text use?

The text uses Arial, or your device's closest sans-serif font when Arial is missing. There is no font picker, but you can set the size, color, opacity and rotation. Languages your device can display, including accented and non-Latin scripts, render as they appear in the box.

Can I add text to a PDF form that is not fillable?

Yes. Place a separate text block in each blank, using the page preview to line it up with the printed lines. Repeat for each field, downloading after each Apply and opening the result to continue.

Can I put the same text on several pages?

Yes. Type a range such as 1-10 in the Pages field, or clear the field to use every page. The text is placed at the same relative position on each selected page.
