About Text comparison

Text comparison finds line-level additions and deletions between an Original version and a Changed version. The display marks added lines with a plus sign and removed lines with a minus sign while retaining unchanged context.

It is useful for reviewing configuration changes, prose revisions and simple exports. Comparison is exact and line-based: a changed word causes the containing line to appear as a removal and an addition, rather than a word-level highlight.

How to use Text comparison

  1. Paste the first version into Original and the second into Changed.
  2. Wait for the local comparison to update.
  3. Read the added and removed lines and compare them with the original inputs.
  4. Use Swap texts to reverse the comparison, or Clear to start another review.

Features

  • Line-by-line comparison with added, deleted and unchanged rows.
  • Exact matching that includes capitalization and whitespace.
  • Shows addition and deletion totals above the result.
  • Limits the rendered preview to 3,000 rows; large comparisons can be rejected or time out.

Common uses

  • Reviewing changes between two configuration files.
  • Comparing a revised article with an earlier draft.
  • Finding added or removed entries in a small line-based export.

Tips

  • Split a very long document into corresponding sections for a more manageable comparison. This interface previews differences rather than exporting a patch file.

Frequently asked questions

Does it highlight changed words within a line?

No. The comparison operates on whole lines. A line with a changed word appears as a removed old line and an added new line.

Why does a space-only change appear in the result?

Lines are matched exactly. Leading or trailing spaces, changed capitals and other whitespace differences therefore count as changes.

How large a comparison can it handle?

The algorithm rejects a job when the product of the two line counts exceeds four million. Long or expensive jobs may also time out; the visible result is capped at 3,000 rows.

Is my text uploaded or saved?

The tool processes the text in this page, on your device. It does not send the input to a conversion service or save it to an account. Advertising and ordinary website requests are separate from this local text processing. Copy or download any result you want to keep before leaving the tool.
