About PNG to JPG

The PNG to JPG converter turns PNG images into JPG files, which are usually much smaller for photos and screenshots with lots of color detail. A quality slider lets you decide how much compression to apply, and the result preview shows the new file size before you download it.

It is handy when an email, form or website rejects large PNG files, or when you need photos that load quickly. Transparent areas are filled with white, because JPG cannot store transparency. Up to 20 images convert at once, entirely in your browser, with no account and nothing sent to a server.

How to use PNG to JPG

  1. Drop your PNG files onto the upload box, click Choose image, or paste an image from the clipboard.
  2. Make sure the output format is set to JPG.
  3. Move the Quality slider (82% by default) and watch the result preview and file size update.
  4. Click Download JPG, or Download ZIP when you converted several images.

Features

  • Adjustable JPG quality from 5% to 100%, starting at 82%.
  • Transparent pixels are placed on a white background so they do not turn black.
  • Side-by-side Original and Result previews with dimensions and file sizes.
  • Batch conversion of up to 20 images, 100 MB in total, with a ZIP download.
  • Images up to 30 MB and 40 megapixels each are converted locally in a background worker.

Common uses

  • Reducing the size of PNG photos before attaching them to an email.
  • Uploading images to a site or application form that only accepts JPG or has a file size limit.
  • Converting phone screenshots of photos into a format every device can open.
  • Preparing a batch of images for a print service or online shop that expects JPG.

Tips

  • For screenshots with sharp text or logos, keep PNG or use WebP; JPG can blur hard edges.
  • If the image has a transparent background you want to keep, choose WebP instead of JPG.

Frequently asked questions

Does converting PNG to JPG lose quality?

Yes, a little. JPG is a lossy format, so some fine detail is discarded to make the file smaller. At the default 82% quality the difference is hard to see in most photos. Raising the slider toward 100% keeps more detail but produces a larger file.

What happens to the transparent background of my PNG?

JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent and semi-transparent areas are placed on a solid white background before the image is saved. If you need to keep transparency with a smaller file, convert to WebP instead.

Why does text in my converted image look fuzzy?

JPG compression is designed for photos and struggles with sharp edges, so text, line art and interface screenshots can pick up faint noise around the letters. Increase the quality setting, or keep those images as PNG or WebP.

Why is my JPG bigger than the PNG?

This can happen with simple graphics that have large areas of flat color, which PNG compresses very efficiently. Lower the quality slider, or leave such images as PNG. JPG is most effective on photos and detailed, colorful images.

Which quality setting should I choose?

Start with the default 82% and compare the preview with the original. For photos shared online, values around that point usually look clean. Go higher for printing or archiving, and lower only when file size matters more than fine detail.
