About Binary to text

Binary to text reads whitespace-separated groups of binary digits as byte values and decodes the resulting bytes as UTF-8. It accepts groups of one to eight digits, although eight-digit groups make byte boundaries clearest.

Use it for small byte examples and output from the Text to binary tool. It does not autodetect legacy code pages or convert an arbitrary executable file into meaningful language. Invalid UTF-8 is reported rather than replaced silently.

How to use Binary to text

  1. Paste binary byte groups separated by whitespace.
  2. Keep Binary → Text selected.
  3. Read the decoded result or correct the reported input error.
  4. Copy or download the text, or select Text → Binary to compare the byte representation.

Features

  • Validates that every group contains only zeros and ones.
  • Accepts one to eight binary digits per group.
  • Allows spaces, tabs and line breaks between groups.
  • Uses strict UTF-8 decoding for the resulting byte sequence.

Common uses

  • Decoding a short binary text exercise.
  • Inspecting a UTF-8 byte fixture written in binary notation.
  • Checking a round trip from Text to binary.

Tips

  • If the source specifies a different character encoding, convert that encoding separately rather than guessing from a failed UTF-8 result.

Frequently asked questions

Can I paste a continuous string of bits?

Use whitespace between bytes. The decoder treats each separated group as one byte and rejects groups longer than eight digits.

Why does a byte value fail UTF-8 validation?

Some bytes must occur as part of a multibyte UTF-8 sequence. A missing continuation byte, a wrong byte value or a different encoding can make the sequence invalid.

Are short groups allowed?

Yes. A group such as 1000001 is read as the byte value for the same number as 01000001. Eight digits per byte are recommended for clarity.

The tool processes the text in this page, on your device. It does not send the input to a conversion service or save it to an account. Advertising and ordinary website requests are separate from this local text processing. Copy or download any result you want to keep before leaving the tool.
